Design Manager

About this Role: Experienced/ambitious Design Manager required by the Bristol based regional office of this specialist main contractor group to manage the design process for one of several new build and refurbishment projects in the Bristol, Somerset and Wiltshire areas. Initially based in the Bristol office you will be involved in one of several schemes currently in preconstruction phase and due to commence imminently on site. The scope of works typically includes defence, scientific, data centres, offices - secured mainly through regional frameworks, competitive tenders or negotiated contracts with key repeat clients. These require fairly extensive preconstruction design development from RIBA stage 2 onwards over a 6-9 month period prior to commencement on site, after which you will either be based on site or work between site and office. Reporting to the Technical Director, you will manage information flow for the schemes through second stage preconstruction and through construction phase on site. Duties will include: Chairing regular design team meetings; Maintaining details records of actions; Development and design strategies and Design Management Plan; Management of consultant design team and sub-contractor design team; Regular liaison with client, stakeholders, design team members and construction teams; Regular review of information required schedule; Ensuring key dates achieved; Review of construction design information for buildability, compliance with contractor's proposals, employers requirements, budget, current building legislation, etc; Identifying opportunities for value engineering opportunities where appropriate; Supporting commercial teams with design advice on coast effective designs; Proactive issue resolution; Innovation - research and suggest solutions to challenges; Overall managing the smooth and timely delivery of detailed design information for procurement and construction throughout the preconstruction and build process.
