Sex Work 101

Why reviews matter for sex workers and how to get more

From on-platform and agency reviews to word of mouth, your reputation as a sex worker is as important as your marketing and brand identity. At first, this might seem intimidating or even unfair.

However, it’s critical to remember that all businesses and self-employed people rely on reviews to build trust with future clients and to showcase their skills. With this in mind, you need to be professional at all times – even when faced with a difficult situation.

Today, we’re exploring why sex work reviews are so important, what happens when you get a bad review, and what you can do to ensure your reviews are all five stars.

Let’s get started.

Why do reviews matter for sex workers?

Would you book a service if the reviews said the business owner wasn’t reliable? Probably not.

While frustrating, reviews are vital for any sex worker. They establish credibility and trust between you and your client. They show you’re a professional and that others have already enjoyed your services. This takes some of the worry out of their booking process.

Also, sex work reviews show you have a credible reputation. Did you struggle to find clients when you were a newbie sex worker? This could have been because you had few credible reviews to back up your skills.

Even if you’re already skilled, reviews are the icing on the cake. They’re what punters want to see before booking your services. Think of sex work reviews as a verification that you’re real and a genuine provider.

What happens if a punter leaves a bad review?

If your punter leaves a bad review or you hear from another potential customer that someone is saying bad things about your services, you might panic.

It’s important to stay calm and reassess. One bad review won’t affect your business. But it does provide a chance to reflect on your current strategy and customer-facing personality.

Sometimes, clients leave bad reviews for no reason. However, a bad review might sometimes draw your attention to an area you’ve been slacking in. Maybe you could be more personable with clients. Or maybe you’re slightly rude to clients you don’t genuinely fancy. If this is the case, you can work on being warmer while in the sessions.

If the review is about sexual performance, you don’t need to worry so much. Everyone has different sexual tastes, and one person complaining won’t put others off.

Some punters have even spoken out, saying they’re not bothered by bad reviews, as you can often tell negative ones were written by bitter punters. They’re more focused on whether there are other positive ones and whether you have enough reviews to prove that you’re a professional rather than a scammer.

3 ways you can improve your reviews and client experience

There are some steps you can take if you’ve noticed a few negative reviews or simply want to be proactive and avoid client complaints.

The tips below can help you guarantee an enjoyable service and prove your expertise as a professional. If you have any bad reviews after implementing these tips, it’s down to the punter being unfair.

1. Put hygiene first

Most sex workers will already be doing this, but if you’re not, listen up.

Hygiene comes first as a sex worker. This means you should shower and touch yourself up before every session. You should also wash your lingerie, sex toys, and anything else you’ll use in the session.

If a client arrives and you’re not clean, they’re much more likely to leave a negative review or warm other potential clients.

2. Be friendly

We get it. After a long day, the last thing you want to do is slap on a fake smile and pretend to be interested in a client.

However, a key part of sex work is providing a fantasy for clients. And this fantasy doesn’t involve an uninterested provider!

Be pleasant and interested as much as possible. This doesn’t mean talking non-stop. But you should ask the punter questions and be interested in their life, especially if you provide the girlfriend experience.

3. Ask for feedback

This might feel odd at first, but after a positive session, you can ask clients to leave feedback. Of course, you can’t do this in a forceful manner. But telling them you’d appreciate a good review if they enjoyed your service will remind them to review.

Many happy punters simply forget about reviews or don’t know how to leave them. So, giving them a nudge at the end of a booking will leave the thought in their mind.

What else can you do to maintain a good reputation?

Alongside implementing the steps above, you can build a positive reputation in other ways. These include:

  • Focusing on your strengths – If there’s a niche or service you enjoy and are good at, prioritise this. For example, you might prefer kink services and have more enthusiasm when you’re a dominatrix. Following your passion will benefit you in terms of client experience
  • Build healthy relationships – When you connect with a client, make time for them in the future. Showing long-term clients you care and have time for them will improve their word of mouth. However, keep the relationship professional and don’t mix personal and professional relationships
  • Keep regular business hours – Though you may not work a nine-to-five, it’s still important to let your clients know what hours you will be working. This lets them know when to expect a reply, which means they won’t get frustrated if you don’t answer at a particular time. Plus, it sets healthy work-life boundaries for you
  • Brush up on your marketing skills – The more professional your online profile and image are, the more reliable you look. Invest in proper photoshoots and spend time studying your competition to form a perfect online persona

The takeaway

When you first started working in the industry, creating a stellar experience for reviews probably wasn’t at the top of your list. However, it’s a big part of succeeding as a professional. Hopefully, this article has helped you identify what you need to do to get more five-star sex work reviews going forward.
