Following on from our previous article: ‘Transgender: Why language matters‘, where we highlighted the importance of trans support, we’ve put together a list of support and community organisations in the UK that work with trans and non-binary people of all ages.
These LGBTQ+ organisations across the UK not only offer specific support for trans people, but many also carry out often carry out training and awareness-raising events to allies of transgender people.
Each organisation / charity offers a unique and dedicated services such as health support, youth work, awareness training and much more.

Stonewall
A charity committed to campaigning for sexual orientation equality, in 2015. Stonewall began consultations with the trans community to become trans-inclusive and put an end to transphobia.

Gendered Intelligence
Gendered Intelligence (GI) is a charity whose mission is to increase a better understanding of gender diversity. Our vision is of a world where people are no longer constrained by narrow perceptions and expectations of gender, and where diverse gender expressions are visible and valued.
The Beaumount Society aim is to help facilitate mutual support and communication in order to improve the health, emotional well-being and confidence of transgender people. Their aim is to promote a better understanding of the conditions of transgender, transvestism and gender dysphoria in society and to the wider public.

GIRES is a charity who work to help the trans and gender non-conforming communities including those whose preferred expression is non-binary and non-gender. Working in collaboration with other groups in this field, they endeavour to find ways to empower individuals to discover their authentic voice.

GALOP is an anti-violence charity working with London-based LGBT groups 25 years and under and are committed to fighting hate crime, sexual violence and domestic abuse. They also support the homeless or those at risk of homelessness, and offer confidential advice and support by telephone or face-to-face.

Founded by Stonewall Young Campaigner Axelle Nasah, this new non-profit organisation supports Black and Black mixed heritage trans people in the UK in areas such as mental health. They also support those who identify as non-binary, genderfluid, agender, gender non-conforming and questioning. You can support the organisation here.
Kamp Kiki is a UK-based retreat for trans people from African and Caribbean descent. They offer the opportunity to indulge in workshops focusing on mindfulness, creativity and healing, and a chance to socialise in safe spaces. Keep your eyes peeled for more events in the future. Scottishtrans.org is an assist transgender people, service providers, employers and equality organisations to engage together to improve gender identity and gender reassignment equality, rights and inclusion in Scotland.

A national charity committed to supporting LGBTI young people aged 13 to 25. Their goal is to advocate a positive environment that enables them to live in an equal and anti-oppressive society. The company delivers the LGBT Charter program to schools and organisations and provides a youth service to support health and well-being.

Families Together
A support group that facilitates meetings for parents and family members of LGBT children seeking support. It’s an opportunity to talk freely and meet with other parents in similar situations and gain access to a library of useful books and resources. They also offer help over the phone and one-to-one-sessions.
MindOut is a mental health service run by and for lesbians, gay, bisexual, trans and queer people with experience of mental health issues. They work to improve the mental health and wellbeing of LGBTQ communities while ensuring mental health is at the forefront of community concern.

Located in Sussex, The Clare Project provides support, resources and volunteering opportunities for the trans, non-binary, intersex and gender-variant (TNBI) community.

Based in Brighton, Trans Can Sport are a not-for-profit project dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of the adult trans community. They offer free or low-cost fitness and sports sessions in a welcoming, safe and supportive environment. Sessions are run in private studios and local sports centres and all fitness trainers have had trans awareness training.

Established in 2001, Space Youth Project runs free youth groups for LGBTQ people across Dorset. Here, they aim to encourage freedom of expression and self-confidence while addressing issues of prejudice and discrimination. Young people can gain support through one-to-one and family sessions and workshops facilitated in educational provisions.
Trans Sexual Health Clinic at Birmingham LGBT
Birmingham LGBT provides sexual health services for the LGBT community seven days a week. They have a range of specialist roles to ensure LGBT individuals have equal access to sexual advice and support and other services and activities.
Based in Newcastle upon Thames, they aim to improve the lives of trans and non-binary people throughout the North East and West of England, through peer support groups and social events.
